Heroes star Ali Larter has vowed that she will not be receiving any help from stylists before hitting the red carpet at the Emmy Awards next month.

The actress, who is co-hosting the awards ceremony alongside American Idol's Ryan Seacrest, has revealed that she will be doing her own hair for the event - and she hopes that doing so will send an important message out to women.

"There is a lot of work that goes into Hollywood hair and I want women to know that it is unrealistic for every day," Ali is quoted by The Sun as saying. "I am going to go out on a limb by doing my own hair for the Emmys without any stylists."

She added: "I am doing all of this to help women realise the potential of their own hair and feel more confident every day."

Ali, who plays troubled mother Niki Sanders on Heroes, came up with the plan after teaming up with Dove Hair Care.
