'Heroes' creator admits season two mistakes

Heroes creator Tim Kring has apologised to fans for "making mistakes" with the second season of the show.

The exec was responding to criticism of the creative direction of volume two, 'Generations', which has been matched by a ratings drop of 15% in the US.

"We took too long to get to the big-picture story," Kring conceded, referring to Peter's (Milo Ventimiglia) vision of a virally-stricken future world, which came in episode seven. "[The audience] wanted adrenaline. We made a mistake."

Of Hiro's (Masi Oka) whimsical adventures in 17th-century Japan, which also came to an end in episode seven, he added: "It should have lasted three episodes. We didn't give the audience enough story to justify the time we allotted it."

Claire's (Hayden Panettiere) romance was also in for criticism. "I've seen more convincing romances on TV," Kring told Entertainment Weekly. "In retrospect, I don't think romance is a natural fit for us."

Volume two will be wrapped up in the eleventh episode of season two, airing December 3 in the States. Said episode could also serve as a season finale - the third volume was due to begin in the second half of season two - in the event of a prolonged WGA strike.
