In Isaac’s apartment, Peter picks up the phone only to discover Hiro is on the other end. The politician’s brother tells him - via Ando’s translation - that he met a future version of Hiro who urged him to “save the cheerleader - save the world”. The oriental pair then debate their fate, before setting off to New York to hook up with Peter. Their journey only lasts a couple of inches however, as the aggrieved gambler they swindled in the casino pays them a visit, along with his heavies.

Meanwhile, Peter is trying to unravel the mystery of the cheerleader, figuring out that Isaac’s portentous paintings may lead him to her whereabouts. However, one vital painting is missing. The painter then reveals it was in the possession of his ex-flame Simone, who planned on putting it up for auction.

Niki’s fugitive husband Hawkins manages to sweet talk her into a temporary reconciliation, much to the delight of their son. Hawkins claims that he has been set up over the theft of the money and is determined to uncover the truth.

Ando and Hiro are coerced by their poker-playing nemesis into helping him out during a big-money game. Hiro does his usual trick of stopping time and swapping cards, but Ando unexpectedly makes a quick dash to the toilets, dragging Hiro with him, much to the bemusement of the other players. Whilst in the lavatory, Ando reveals that one of the men playing poker has a gun concealed beneath the table. Suddenly, they hear gunshots outside and all havoc breaking loose. In the heat of the moment, Hiro’s ability to stop time deserts him. They manage to clamber out of the toilet window and continue their journey to New York.

A disillusioned Mohinder prepares to return to India, despite the romantic intrigue with Eden and the questions lingering over his father’s death.. He is also alienated about what Peter told him, concerning cheerleaders, time travel and drug-addled painters drawing the future. Once Mohinder leaves the New York apartment, Eden reveals her true colours by phoning the shady Mr Bennet and passing on what she’s discovered .

Prior to the call, Bennet had arranged a somewhat dull meeting between cheerleading daughter Claire and her supposed biological parents. The teenager learns nothing of note about any hereditary conditions that could explain her body’s unnatural propensity to cheat death and heal so quickly.

Niki confronts her violent alter-ego, with a few shocking revelations emerging. For it turns out that not only were the poker players slaughtered by her, but she also was responsible for stealing two million dollars from Linderman and framing her husband. In a state of panic, Niki opts to grab the hidden and money and make a run for it with her son. But Hawkins discovers her during the act and realises the past betrayal. Niki’s devious persona then takes hold and sends her husband flying through the air with just a single punch.

However, Hawkins has a special ability of his own - to pass his body through solid objects. Reaching into Niki’s stomach, he chokes her and leaves her lying on the floor, seemingly dead. He then takes his son Micah, who witnessed the savage battles, and heads off.

Isaac then receives a visitor at his painting-filled abode claiming to be a fan of his work. It is Eden, who was earlier told by Bennet to pay the artist a visit…
