Peter has a dream about showing the ailing Charles Devraux – the man he was caring for - that he can fly. Devraux’s daughter Simone – who Peter has become romantically involved with – then arrives at his apartment and wakes him up – with the news that her father is dead. The mysterious name of Mr Linderman pops up yet again, as Simone tells Peter that the much-sought after cheerleader painting by Isaac is in the clutches of this unseen figure.
Nathan and family have brunch with a journalist – Oliver Dennisson - writing a feature on the politician’s campaign. However, a manic Peter turns up and discreetly demands that his brother help him retrieve the painting – or else he’ll tell the journalist about his flying abilities. Nathan agrees and later calls Linderman to arrange for it to be delivered to a gallery.
Dennisson then drops a bombshell by revealing he has information that implicates Nathan with a blonde lady during his time in Las Vegas. Instead of admitting to a steamy session with Niki, Nathan is saved by Peter who quickly comes forward with a cover up story.
Matt is recruited by the FBI thanks to his special mind-reading powers, which have impressed Audrey. On the hunt for the killer named Sylar, they discover a man named Theodore Sprague is responsible for a murder – courtesy of his power to emit radiation. They rack him down to a hospital where he is visiting his wife, who is in a coma due to cancer. Matt thinks quickly and overcomes a hostage situation by relaying Sprague’s wife’s thoughts to him. He then agrees to be taken into custody.
However, domestically all is not well with Matt as he discovers that his police buddy Tom has been having an affair with his wife. He flies into a rage and punches the adulterer, before storming off.
Zach finds the videotape containing Claire’s death-defying stunts. However, this falls into the hands of the cheerleader’s brother Lyle, who is disturbed by what he sees and locks himself in the car with the tape. Eventually he is convinced to come out and return the material.
Niki wakes up following her violent row with fugitive husband DL Hawkins, who has taken her son Micah. The blonde seems to be consumed by her angry alter-ego and scares off her friend Jessica.
Meanwhile, Hawkins encounters a smashed up car on the road with a passenger trapped inside. As he goes to help, Hiro arrives on the scene and stops time just as the car explodes – saving their lives.
Later at a hotel, Micah sneaks out and calls his mother from a phone booth that was seemingly ‘out of order’. He tells her their location, although it is clear he is speaking not to Niki, but her alter-ego.
