S01E16: 'Unexpected'

Nuclear man Ted is visited by Hana in a remote hideaway after she contacts him using online messenger – even though his laptop is not connected to the internet. With this special power she also has the marks on her neck that have come from an encounter with Mr Bennet, so her and Ted form an alliance to seek revenge. Ted later goes to visit the grave of his dead wife, although the flowers he brings quickly wilt along with any nearby shrubbery – a result of his radioactivity.

Bennet visits Isaac and explains that Peter Petrelli is now invisible and instructs the artist to kill him if given the chance – in order to save the world. He hands Isaac a gun. Bennet and The Haitian later track down Peter and Claude using special heet-seeking equipment. Claude is stunned but Peter suddenly uses his powers to stop the weapons and fly the pair away and to safety. Later, Claude angrily flees Peter as he cannot risk being found again. Peter, in turn, focuses his fury at Isaac as he believes the painter helped Bennet find them.

Bennet rushes to the hospital to visit his wife, who was found by Claire in the kitchen after collapsing. The cheerleader is fed up with her father’s excuses for her mother’s condition and confesses that she is aware of all the mind-wiping that has taken place. Mr Bennet emotionally claims to have been doing such things to protect the family from the likes of Sylar, but Claire refuses to forgive him.

Hiro and Ando are caught up in a gun battle between the thieving Hope and her Gaming Commission Officer nemesis. Ando is shot in the arm and goes with Hiro to hide in a nearby bus, but Hope hunts them down and fires a bullet at close range. Hiro’s powers conveniently return and he manages to reverse time and the bullet too. Hope is soon arrested. Hiro begs Ando to return to Japan after his close scrape with death, fearing for his safety, and heads off towards Las Vegas alone.

Mohinder Suresh and Sylar, still pretending to be the metal-manipulating Zane, visit a female mechanic called Dale who can hear sounds from far away. Dale suggests they return the next day when she has more time to talk, but Sylar returns sooner than that to murder her and absorb her power. However, he isn’t instantly impressed as it gives him a lot of feedback and headaches. Suresh and Sylar return – as agreed – the next day only to find Dale’s dead body with her head cut open, which Suresh recognises as the work of Sylar. The pair head off without calling the police straight away, a suggestion made by Sylar in case they become suspects.

Matt confesses stealing the diamonds to his wife, who suggests that he hands them in to the police. Before he can do so, he receives a phone call and heads off to meet Ted and Hana – who propose an alliance to bring down Mr Bennet. Matt eventually agrees, with he and Ted confronting Mr Bennet in his house when he returns from the hospital with his family.

A furious Peter pays Isaac a visit and suggests that the painter sold him short over his relations with Simone. However, Isaac maintains that he only helped Mr Bennet because he was led to believe the world was at stake. After Peter attacks him telekinetically, Isaac whips out his weapon and aims it at his love rival. Peter turns on the invisibility before he can fire though, which confuses Isaac who then tries to fire randomly around the room hoping he will hit the target. Hearing a noise, he turns around and fires only to be shocked to see Simone – who just entered the room – falling to the ground with a bullet in her. She dies in Peter’s arms.
