'Heroes' S03E04: 'I Am Become Death'
Jumping four years into the future yet again allows Heroes the opportunity to deliver a few shocks and parallel world style scenarios. Yet there's a growing sense that these journeys are becoming a bit frustrating and inconsequential, as any deaths (like Scarfaced Future Peter) or treachery can be undone by flitting back to the present day as the future is in a constant state of flux.

However, there's no denying the ingenuity of Future Sylar, presented hilariously as a waffle-making, apron-wearing, Mr Muggles-stroking devoted father to a son called Noah! It's not long before Zachary Quinto, so convincing as both hero and villain (and both simultaneously!) brings out the underlying sinister edge within the character, warning Peter that 'The Hunger' associated with his powers is hard to resist. Could this be the making or breaking of Peter?

The visual depiction of the nightmarish future world, as before, is suitably depicted in morbid blue-tinted colours. The effects of Mohinder's serum, allowing normal people to gain powers, is well realised through the marvellous effects of a cityscape dominated by businessmen nonchalantly flying through the air. The transitions between the time periods are also enabled in an artistic manner, as highlighted by Mohinder's Dictaphone quickly shifting from gleaming new to dust-ridden in order to represent the passing of time.

Apart from Mohinder's ongoing homage to The Fly, which is beyond a joke, 'I Am Become Death' provides a pleasing sojourn into the repercussions of present day actions. That's nothing new for Heroes, but there's enough clever invention going on to keep it afloat. Plus, Adam Monroe is back in town...

I do love Heroes, but i don't like where they're taking Peter, it's getting a bit stupid. I -really- don't like the Mohinder and Mohinder/Maya storyline, i actually wonder off during those scenes they bore me, badly, as is the Nathan/Tracy, as much as i love Nathan. I LOVE Zachary Quinto and Sylar, it's perfectly acted and the way he can seemlessly slip into different aspects of his character is incredable. SO Glad Adam is back :), and despite my mini rant, i did enjoy this episode, it is wonderfully made, i'm just worried where they are taking some of my favourite characters (esp. Peter).

Very watchable in a way that Season Two wasn't, but there's no denying that Season Three is really a bunch of inconsequential set-pieces and wonky character development. There's only so many times that you can hit the reboot button and get away with it.

Fantastic ep. This season is hurtling along at a great pace. And this installment brought us the much welcome return of shirtless Peter Petrelli. Funny, though, the US critics are slamming the season. Joyless gits.
