S01E09: 'Homecoming'
“I’m not sure what to believe anymore,” states Simone during this dark and delicious episode. Neither are we, darling. For the ninth chapter of this intriguing series throws up quite a few twists to both the viewers and the characters.

We discover that Peter’s talent doesn’t lie in flying, but in the ability to absorb the powers of those around him. This is used to very clever effect in conjunction with Isaac’s painting and Claire’s abilities. Technically, the painting did project the correct future image of his death and the twist of his revival is expertly handled thanks to not being explicitly signposted.

‘Cheats don’t prosper’ goes the saying. Tell that to poor Jackie, whose lack of prosperity involved Sylar gruesomely ending her life. Again, this was another clever turn of events as it was easy to assume that Claire would automatically be the focus of everyone’s cheerleader-related intentions in the school. But, when you think about it, it makes perfect sense for Sylar and Peter to believe Jackie is the special one. As a result, she moved from being figuratively brainless to physically brainless. Poor girl.

Mr Bennet’s character trajectory has seen him emerge as a (seemingly) caring parental figure despite his earlier villainous leanings. Now we’re now presented with the strong possibility that Eden is moving in the opposite direction. She duped Mohinder into believing she was someone else, but is she also playing a game with Bennet? Her interaction with a fleeing Sylar certainly hints that she is far more powerful than we were lead to believe.

The climactic events at the school were Heroes at its finest. Surprisingly brooding and disturbing in nature, the locker room events with Sylar, Jackie and Claire more than delivered on the weeks spent setting up the confrontation. Annoyingly though, the action kept flitting from there to India, where Mohinder’s investigations continued to meander in comparison. Let's hope he books that flight back to the States sharpish.
