S01E17: 'Company Man'
Any episode that features the glorious Mr Bennet without his horn-rimmed glasses is something special, and ‘Company Man’ doesn’t disappoint. Bathed in ambiguity since the beginning, we’ve had a long wait to discover the origins of his association with both Claire and the mysterious organisation behind capturing those with special powers. Via well executed flashbacks, we can see just how intricately planned Heroes is.

Tantalising revelations included Hiro’s father – aka Mr Sulu – having his finger in the Primatech pie. We also met Bennet’s sinister boss Thompson, played by Eric Roberts. This served up a serious treat to Doctor Who fans, as Roberts, who played The Master in the 1996 tv movie, shared the screen with recent Time Lord Christopher Eccleston. How long before Davros is thrown into the mix too?!

The special effects encompassing Ted’s meltdown in the Bennet residence are superb and truly cinematic, whilst the climax is emotionally resonant as the cheerleader’s surrogate father makes a huge sacrifice to give her a crack at freedom. In fact, much of this episode revolves around the importance of the family unit.

But this episode belonged to Mr Bennet, where his compassion and humanity was finally fully revealed, no doubt leading to a few gulps and ‘oh’s from those who had him down as a plain old baddie. He may have lost his mind, but ours are all gripped and awaiting to see what lies in store next…
