S02E08: 'Four Months Ago'
This fantastic episode is tinged with a sense of sadness, for it highlights exactly where Heroes has been going wrong in its lacklustre second season.

Rewinding four months to the end of the first season and filling in some sizeable gaps, the story is totally absorbing and gives characters like Alejandro, Maya, Bob and Elle proper introductions to the audience. DL Hawkins is given the heroic demise he deserved and Niki's tragic 'repossession' explains why she came to be hooked up with The Company.

By tampering with the linearity of the show for the second season, the makers of Heroes tried to be clever and fell flat on their faces. Who knew that the ambiguous force of Adam Monroe was lurking beneath the tedious Kensei character for all those weeks? Then there's Bob, who seems to have adopted the role that Bennet played in the first year, making us ponder whether he's a villain or not.

At times, given the amount of plot details conveyed, it feels like we're watching on fast forward. But at least our eyes are peeled compulsively to the fascinating revelations that are contained within, particularly a wonderful moment when The Haitian is cruel to be kind to Peter by locking him in a crate without the burden of his memories.

Let's hope this episode functions as a relaunch for the show and the remaining chapters of the curtailed season are of similar quality.
