The actor, who plays Dr Jack Shephard on the drama, told WENN that his character was intended to be killed off in the second episode.
"Damon Lindelof and J.J. Abrams thought it would be cool to set Jack up as the hero, and then kill him off in the second episode," Fox revealed.
"But various people told them they thought this would be a bad idea."
In 2008, Fox apparently believed that a DUI arrest would grant him an early exit from the programme.
