The 30-year-old actress, who played Charlotte Lewis for 15 episodes between season four and five, added that she was excited to be asked back.
"I was gutted and disappointed because I felt that Charlotte's story hadn't reached a conclusion," she said of her exit in season five. "I was having such a great time and I didn't feel like I was ready to leave.
"I finished a long time ago - over a year ago - and since then I've done four films and worked with all these other people and had amazing experiences. It was a blessing in disguise in a way, then I got to go back again. It all worked out in the end!"
She continued: "I never thought I was going back again so when they called me and asked me to come back I was like, 'Yay! I'm in Lost again!'"
Mader refused to reveal the exact number of episodes she will appear in this season, but confirmed that it is "definitely one, maybe more".
Lost continues Tuesdays at 9pm on ABC in the US and Fridays at 9pm on Sky1 in the UK.
