Light Summary: Rose is surprisingly and vehemently opposed to Bernard's plan to create an S.O.S. signal. Romantic sparks are rekindled between Jack and Kate when they trek into the jungle to propose a "trade" with "The Others"; and Locke begins to question his faith in the island.
Full Summary: Rose organises the food stock as Bernard starts to question why they're on the island. He thinks that everyone's given up on being rescued. Meanwhile, down in the hatch, Locke attempts to re-create the drawing which he saw during the lockdown.
Jack and Ana Lucia check on Henry in the armoury. Jack reveals that he plans to go to "the line" that they shouldn't cross to strike a deal with the others – Henry for Walt.
Flashback: Bernard meets Rose for the first time when her car gets stuck in the snow. The pair then decide to go for a cup of coffee.
On the beach, Bernard has an idea and starts to round everyone up. He wants to construct an S.O.S sign which can be seen from the skies. Surprisingly, Rose is against the idea and makes a fool of him in front of everybody. She believes he's giving everyone false hope…
Elsewhere, Jack asks Kate to go out into the jungle with him to offer the exchange to "the others".
Flashback: Rose and Bernard meet for lunch as two violinists serenade her. Bernard gets down on one knee and declares his undying love. Rose, however, reveals she's dying – she's got cancer and has roughly a year to live. Bernard reassures Rose that he still wants to marry her no matter what and she accepts his proposal.
Bernard asks Mr Eko to help with the S.O.S sign but he refuses to help and refuses to provide any raw materials. Bernard walks away in shock.
Back in the hatch, Locke continues on his mission to reconstruct the image he saw. He asks Ana Lucia to talk with Henry but Ana Lucia tells Locke that she doesn't have the gun and the door's staying shut. Locke shouts through to Henry asking what really happened during the lockdown. Inside, Henry sits smiling…
On the sands, Bernard starts to plan to construct the sign, adamant that this is what will save them.
Flashback: Rose and Bernard are in the Australian Outback for their honeymoon. Rose thinks they're lost but Bernard reveals that he's brought Rose to a healer, Isaac of Uluru. Rose isn't happy about the situation – she's come to terms with what's going to happen. Bernard, on the other hand, hasn't.
Rose continues to act strangely around Bernard. She walks off. Out in the depths of the jungle, Jack and Kate get a little caught up, but it's not too long before they're on their way again.
Bernard gets frustrated with the way Jin's working on the S.O.S. Across the beach, Rose bumps into Locke who reveals that he's not bothered with the hatch any more.
Flashback: In the Outback, Rose meets Isaac Uluru. He explains that there are certain places on the earth with great energy and, where possible, he harnesses the energy and heals people. Isaac tells Rose that there are different energies but the Outback is not the right place for her to be healed. She decides to tell Bernard, however, that Isaac fixed her.
In the jungle, Kate makes Jack aware of the medical hatch she found with Claire. The pair finally reach "the line" in the hope to make a trade.
Rose talks to Bernard on the beach. She reveals that Isaac didn't heal her. She tells her devoted husband that after the crash, she couldn't feel the cancer any more - it's the island that cured her. Bernard can't comprehend the situation but Rose assures him that "she knows" it was the island.
Flashback: In the airport Rose drops her pills out of her handbag. A wheelchair pulls up alongside her to pick them up – it's Locke.
In the hatch, Ana Lucia informs Locke that she pushed his button. Locke, however, tells her that it's not his button and Charlie and Mr Eko continue with their construction.
Kate and Jack, meanwhile, await the appearance of "the others" but are shocked at the unexpected discovery of someone much closer to home.
