S03E14: 'Exposé'
In this episode the focus is on young couple Nikki and Paulo, two of the island’s lesser known inhabitants. We join Nikki in a desperate physical state, as she struggles to bury a small pouch in the jungle before making it to the beach and collapsing before Hurley and Sawyer. She utters a couple of words that they think sound like ‘Paulo Lies’ before losing consciousness and pronounced dead. Paulo is also soon found in the jungle in a similar lifeless state.

In a flashback we discover that Nikki was an actress having an affair with an elderly director named Howard Zuckerman, who filmed her in a show entitled Exposé . The couple dine at his home, with Paulo being the chef, when Zuckerman suddenly dies from poisoned food. They steal his diamonds and head for the airport, where they come across an arguing Boone and Shannon.

Desmond reveals that he saw Sawyer arguing with Nikki earlier, whilst Sun believes The Others are to blame. Charlie then admits to her that he was responsible for her abduction, not The Others. Sawyer later gives Sun a pouch containing several diamonds, after the pressure on him grows.

Going back to the moments after the plane crashed on the island, we see Nikki scouring the wreckage to find out where the diamonds are. He and Paulo later journey inland in search of the bag they were in, where he finds them in a lake but keeps it to himself.

A few hours before Nikki turned up on the beach and collapsed, we see her discover that Paulo is in possession of the diamonds. She carries out a plan to paralyse him using a Medusa spider - whose bite makes the victim appear dead. However, one of the spiders bites her too. We then seen her run to the beach and collapse, with the word being ‘paralyzed’ not ‘Paulo lies’. As her and her boyfriend are buried in the sand, her eyelids flicker open. But it’s too late.
