The other members of the team are Miles - a medium who claims to converse with spirits; Charlotte - an English anthropologist who once found a polar bear skeleton in the desert along with a collar bearing the Dharma Initiative symbol; and Daniel - a physicist who cried when he learnt about the Oceanic disaster.
On the island, Daniel encounters Kate and Jack, who grow suspicious over his gun and the gas mask in his baggage. He wants to find the other members of his team and Jack agrees to help him do so, but learns that rescuing the crash survivors is not their primary objective. They soon encounter Miles, who angrily pulls a gun on them and demands to be taken to Naomi's body. Before she died, Naomi dropped in a coded message to say that she was killed. Miles communicates with her corpse and accepts Kate's explanation that it was Locke who murdered her, against everyone's wishes. Soon, Juliet and Sayid emerge from the bushes with guns and capture Daniel and Miles.
Charlotte lands in a river and encounters Locke and his band of rebels who don't want to meet the 'rescue' team. She is shocked by their attitude and refusal to pass on much information to her. They attach her GPS tracking device to the dog Vincent's collar and send him off to the jungle, to be found later by Jack. Ben manages to secretly steal Karl's gun and shoots Charlotte twice, but her bulletproof vest saves her life. Locke is about to shoot Ben for his actions, but he reveals that he knows the identity and background of Charlotte and her team as he has infiltrated their boat. He tells Locke that he was right to be suspicious of their motives.
Jack's group find Frank next to the helicopter, which Sayid believes is still fit to fly. Juliet reveals her name to Frank, which prompts him to immediately declare that she must be a native as her name wasn't on the list of the crashed Oceanic flight. Miles demands to know the location of Ben, pulling out a photograph of him.
