S04E04: 'Eggtown'
The best episode of the new series so far deployed the flashforward device to great effect, creating several new mysteries that will no doubt be stretched out - much to the collective frustration of viewers.

Episodes foregrounding Kate's past have been particularly effective in the past, with this trait now applying to her future endeavours. Her somewhat acrimonious relationship with her mother took another twist, with the woman now on the verge of death and refusing to give evidence in the hope of seeing her grandson. Grandson? Did we hear that correctly? But before minds could ponder whether Jack or Sawyer were the fertilisers, the baby's name was revealed as Aaron - leading one to strongly suspect that Kate has swiped Claire's baby from the island. Does Jack even know that he is Claire's half brother by this stage in the future?

The courtroom scenes were very well executed, with a marked difference in the characterisation of Jack. The surgeon has become known as the trustworthy, honest type since Oceanic Flight 815 crashed, so his blatant lies about the island under oath were definitely dramatic. Yet more tantalising dots are being laid down by the writers, and we can only hope that they are joined with the same level of ingenuity and relish that they've been created with.
