The Welsh presenter was last week tipped as a favourite for the job after his "cheeky" sense of humour apparently impressed producers.
In a new interview with the Daily Star, Jones remained coy after being asked whether the rumours were true.
He commented: "It's always best not to talk about things like that. I don't want to jinx anything, but I would love to work for X Factor. I would love to work for Simon Cowell. He is a hero of mine. Let's just see."
UK X Factor host Dermot O'Leary has also been linked to the Stateside role in recent months. However, other sources have suggested that the position is likely to be taken by an American star.
