The CW has ordered a pilot episode for a new version of the series, which ran between 1992 and 1999 on FOX. 90210 - a remake of Beverly Hills, 90210 - premiered in September to an impressive 5 million viewers and has since been picked up for a full season.
"It's extremely depressing that there's no original content to be made," Eggold told DS of the Melrose remake. "Hollywood seems to be out of ideas and just taking old things that have worked and redoing them."
Eggold, who plays young teacher Ryan Matthews, added: "I know there's writers out there with new material, so it just seems lazy to take old shows that have worked and do them again."
