Speaking exclusively to DS, the 26-year-old actor, who plays bad boy Liam Court on The CW drama, also admitted that he is happy to stick with the show "for a few more years".
"This is not official, but I'm pretty sure that we're going to season three," he said. "I could see it going for four or five years. I'd love to be a part of it for a few more years to come."
Lanter added that the show's second season will see Liam's family background explored further.
"We've got his mum coming in and we also meet his step-dad in season two - who sent him off to boot camp - and we get to see his home life.
"We see that his mum and him used to be this team - them two versus the world - and we see how his step-dad came in and ruined his life. He doesn't have a good relationship with him! That causes a lot of issues."
90210 returns for its second season Tuesday, January 5 at 9pm on E4. In the US, the second season resumes later this month on The CW.
