In a recent interview, Fey suggested that the frequently unlucky-in-love Liz could marry and start a family.
"I think it'd be okay for her," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "I think for example her relationship with Chris [James Marsden] is a nice one in that she's not altering who she is and it's still working out.
"As she's re-started this path toward motherhood, I'm excited for the character. We haven't figured out how it will play out but I think there's a way for it to play out and still have her feel true to her character."
Fey went on to discuss other possibilities in the show's future, and named some characters she would like to see return.
Those included Michael Benjamin Washington as Tracy Jordan's non-son, and two of Liz Lemon's former ill-fated love interests - Michael Sheen's Wesley Snipes and Dean Winters's Dennis Duffy.
She explained: "Mostly it's a matter of the kind of bucket lists I have in my head is people that we've had on that we love and want to bring back."
The plot of 30 Rock's upcoming live episode was recently revealed. The episode will feature Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) taking Liz and Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) on a journey through the history of live television, in response to their plan to pre-tape their sketch comedy series TGS.
Fey recently suggested that the end of the show is "on the horizon".
