The crime drama's seventh season is currently airing on Fox, while a full eighth run has yet to be confirmed.
"We weren't able to give some of the other characters that we love – Hodgins (TJ Thyne) and Cam (Tamara Taylor) – more extensive arcs [this year]," exec Stephen Nathan revealed in a recent conference call. "We will be doing that if we get picked up. [Plus] more Booth (David Boreanaz) family stuff."
The current run of Bones will be comprised of 13 episodes, with four 'bonus' episodes - to air after the season finale - still unscheduled.
"[Those four episodes are] more stylised than we normally would do," Nathan explained. "We were able to tackle stories that we might not normally have tackled."
Bones creator Hart Hanson previously admitted that he is "confident" the show will be picked up for an eighth season.
"There are still very good stories to be told in the Bones universe, stories that our characters generate," he said in January. "So that's a long way of saying 'yes' - I'd like it to come back."
Bones returns to Fox on Monday, April 2. In the UK, the show airs on Sky1.
