Bones has been renewed for season eight by Fox.

The crime drama, created by Hart Hanson, focuses on Dr Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) as they investigate murder cases using clues from analysing human remains.

Fox president Kevin Reilly stated: "Over the past seven seasons, Hart Hanson, [executive producer] Stephen Nathan and the incredible Bones cast and crew have redefined the traditional crime procedural with an irreverent and adventurous sensibility.

"I'm really happy to have this distinctive fan favourite on our schedule for another season."

Stephen Nathan previously said that the writers plan to potentially give the characters of Hodgins (TJ Thyne) and Cam (Tamara Taylor) more extensive arcs in season eight.

"We will be doing that if we get picked up," he said. "[Plus] more Booth family stuff."

Animated series The Simpsons was renewed earlier in the season for two more years.

Bones returns to US televisions on April 2 after a hiatus with the episode 'The Prisoner in the Pipe'.
