Bones creator and executive producer Hart Hanson has agreed to stay with 20th Century Fox Television for another three years.
The eight-figure deal will see him continue with the drama and develop new projects. It also includes a possible extension to four years.
Hanson is already working on new light drama Lies and Promises which Fox has confirmed a pilot for.
Fox chairman Dana Walden said: "He is just a gem - he is a smart, talented, very creative individual who happens to be wonderful to work with.
"He's the only writer I know who's been able to successfully marry the tones of a light drama and a grisly crime show on Bones, a show we're so proud of."
The producer agreed to renegotiate Hanson's term despite his contract having a year to run. He said: "They've been very good to me and have made me feel important to them. I've found a home here."
Hanson, who is developing Lies and Promises though his company Far Field Productions, would have to make it alongside Bones if a series is commissioned. He joked: "I hope to get to that difficulty."
