Fringe showrunner Jeff Pinkner has reacted to the sci-fi drama's recent renewal.

His co-producer Joel Wyman recently broke the news that the show has been picked up for a fourth season.

Responding to the news on Twitter, Pinkner wrote: "Yay!! Season 4. I would thank each and every one of you by name, but at 140 characters per tweet, I'm afraid that would blow up my phone!! (sic)"

He continued: "Suffice to say, we are so grateful for your support! Sincerely, you all are the greatest fans in the world."

Pinkner also encouraged fans to tune in for the forthcoming third season finale.

"We have some amazing stories to tell in season four," he promised. "Not to mention this year's finale, which may be our most insane yet!"

Pinkner previously claimed that the finale, which is expected to air on May 6, will "unfurl in a very unexpected way for the characters and the audience".

Fringe continues tonight at 9/8c on Fox.
