In the Fox drama's recent season finale, Peter Bishop (Jackson) was erased from history by a time paradox.
"He's got a job [and] he's still under contract," said showrunner Joel Wyman. "We can't yet reveal what exactly we have in store for him, but he's definitely not going out [to audition] for other shows."
Discussing the circumstances of Peter's mysterious disappearance, co-producer Jeff Pinkner added that fans "should be wondering" why the character was erased from time.
"The reason to come back and watch is exactly for the questions you're asking," he said. "Everybody is asking the right questions. [They are] not questions of confusion but questions of intrigue, of being compelled. We always like it when it's like that."
Jackson's co-star John Noble recently announced that "all of [the show's] principal characters will be back next year, just maybe a little bit different".
The third season of Fringe concluded last Friday on Fox. A fourth season will premiere in the fall.
