Recap - 'The Event': 'A Message Back'

A technician detects a reply to the message Thomas sent into space, but is quickly murdered by his co-worker. The second technician, Anthony, contacts Thomas and explains that something terrible has occurred on their home planet. Meanwhile, Dempsey targets a young girl for extraction, telling his assistant that he will need the 'extract' to remain in good health while he completes his task.

Inside Vicky's home, Sean blackmails the assassin into helping him, revealing that he has created a virus that will release her family's address online unless he is alive and able to stop it every two hours. She explains that they need to take down Dempsey and, learning of the Vice-President's connection to the billionaire, Sean decides to target Jarvis. President Martinez sanctions military force in his efforts to track down Sophia, but is shocked when Vice-President Jarvis interrupts his briefing and announces his return to work.

Thomas contacts Sophia and explains that he has received bad news from home. He tells her that they need to unite and explains that he is organising a gathering of their people to deliver the news. Back at the White House, Jarvis warns a furious Martinez that if he stands in his way, he will expose the Inostranka cover-up. Sterling interrupts their confrontation, explaining that Sophia's latest call has allowed them to track her to an address in San Francisco. Martinez tells General Armbruster to take Sophia dead or alive.

As they drive, Vicky explains to Sean that Dempsey originally tried to kill Martinez to prevent him from releasing the Intosranka prisoners, as he wanted to keep his experiments on the half-alien girls a secret. When Sean admits that he does not understand Vicky's motives, she claims that her first kill was her abusive step-dad. However, she quickly admits that this "sob story" is a ruse and that she simply is who she is. In the White House, Sterling confronts Martinez, warning the President that he may be losing control. Martinez explains that he blames himself for past failures and that he needs to change to stop Sophia and her people.

At an internet cafe, Sean learns that Jarvis is attending party fundraiser at the Ambassador Hotel in Washington. He and Vicky break into one of the hotel rooms and tie up Ted and Cynthia Fisk, a wealthy couple who are planning to attend the party. After mocking up fake ID's and rubber finger-prints to pose as Ted and Cynthia, Vicky prepares to kill the couple, but Sean knocks them out instead. At the Gellars' home, Leila watches in secret as Carlos receives a message from Thomas summoning him to Los Angeles for the meeting.

As the military descend on her location, Sophia decides that she will attend Thomas's meeting to halt her son's influence over their people, and Michael agrees to accompany her. The government intercepts Thomas's encrypted text message, which has been sent to over 200 people. Martinez realises that the text must contain a location and that the sleeper agents may be assembling. He tells the military to stand down and follow Sophia and Michael to the meeting.

Sean and a disguised Vicky pass through hotel security and, in the bathroom, Vicky assembles a gun from multiple parts disguised as harmless objects. Sean and Vicky lead Jarvis away at gunpoint and demand evidence to use against Dempsey. Jarvis claims that he has no proof but eventually reveals that Dempsey has left the country and is now in France, somewhere in the Jura mountains. Meanwhile, the real Ted Fisk wakes up and alerts hotel security. Jarvis's team find him unharmed, but Sean and Vicky have already escaped.

The sleepers assemble at a cathedral, while Leila also sneaks inside. Sterling confirms from security footage that Thomas is inside the church and Martinez tells Armbruster to launch an assault. Thomas addresses his people and explains that their home planet's sun has begun to go super nova. Since their planet will be uninhabitable in less than a year, he plans to bring their entire race to Earth. A sleeper guard spots approaching government agents and warns Thomas, but the military siege has already begun.
