As Simon prepares to contact Sophia, he receives a scrambled call from a mysterious advisor, who warns him that his cover has been blown. With the help of his new aide, Simon is able to evade the President's security team and escape. With Simon gone and several of the dead sleepers identified as high-ranking officials, Martinez becomes determined to root out the sleepers once and for all. He meets with Senator Lewis and reveals that he wants to perform secret nationwide DNA tests. When Lewis proposes that the CDC could issue news of a tuberculosis scare and impose mandatory testing, Martinez agrees and decides to launch a pilot programme within the White House.
Leila wakes in an empty house and finds herself within a gated community. She is approached by a sinister man, who insists that she return to her new home and not leave the surrounding area. At another house nearby, Sophia mourns the death of Thomas. A number of sleepers assemble, including Simon, and Sophia tells them that she now intends to follow through with Thomas's plan to bring their entire race to Earth. Simon points out that the Earth does not have enough resources to sustain two races, and is horrified when Sophia suggests that many humans will have to die to accommodate the newcomers.

At the White House, the First Lady questions the mandatory testing. Martinez reveals that the tuberculosis story is a cover to root out the sleepers, but Christina is angry and argues that the test is an abuse of civil liberties. Back at the gated community, Simon shares his concerns with Michael over Sophia's new plan. Simon suggests that they could escape and warn the government, and Michael agrees to go with him. The next morning, Simon prepares to leave, but Michael has betrayed him to Sophia. Simon insists that he will never go along with their leader's genocidal plan, and, as Leila watches, Simon is led away at gun-point.

Meanwhile, Sean confronts Henri in his home, knocking the assassin out and tying him to a chair. When he refuses to give up Dempsey's true hiding place, a desperate Sean resorts to torture, smashing Henri's hands with a hammer. Wracked with pain, Henri finally reveals the location. Back at the White House, Martinez discusses the progress of the pilot programme with Senator Lewis. She reveals that only one person refused to take the test, Christina, but the President insists that his wife's objection is purely on ethical grounds. As the episode concludes, Martinez and his wife cross paths and exchange brief smiles, but he is clearly disturbed by her refusal to take the test.
