As Carlos tells Sophia that catastrophic radiation levels have hit their own home planet, Dr. Liu informs the alien leader that she will need an accurate simulation to judge the speed of the virus's effect on humans. Meanwhile, Simon breaks into Sterling's home and presents him with the antidote vial. Though Sterling is reluctant to trust Simon, he spots a car outside his house and realises that Jarvis is having them both followed. A CIA security team moves in to intercept Sterling and Simon, but the pair summon the police to the house with reports of an armed robbery and escape in the resulting confusion.

Back at the mall, Sean races to the roof to stop Alex. Vicky tries to set off the fire alarm, but it has been disconnected, and she is forced to take a security guard hostage. Alex's accomplice also patches Sophia into the mall's security system, so that she and Dr. Liu can observe the release of the virus. Sean reaches the roof and spots Alex, but her accomplice opens fire and he is pinned down. At the hospital, Jarvis meets with Christina and claims that Sterling and Simon worked together to poison her husband. The First Lady reveals that she has been in contact with Sterling and that they had arranged to meet at a warehouse on South Kendall street.

With seconds to spare, Sean shoots the virus canister and disrupts its power source, preventing the contagion from spreading through the mall's air system. However, Alex escapes on a bus and is able to release the contents of a second canister. The sleepers intercept the bus and Dr. Liu examines the humans within, who all died within minutes. Liu explains to Sophia that she has found a way to slow down the virus and allow for maximum exposure - since the disease kills humans too quickly and doesn't affect aliens at all, they need a hybrid, such as Leila, to use as a carrier.
A CIA team inspect the burnt-out wreckage of the South Kendall warehouse. They find no bodies, but discover a tunnel that leads to an outbuilding, implying that Sterling and Simon escaped. Jarvis listens back to Sterling and Christina's phone conversation, which has now been decrypted, and realises that he has been duped by the pair. Having previously intercepted the antidote at the hospital from a disguised Simon, Christina injects it into Martinez's bloodstream. Meanwhile, back at the sleepers' hide-out, Sophia watches as Leila is strapped to a table and infected with a virulent strain of the Spanish flu.
