Meanwhile, Katie wakes up and finds Joshua sitting on her bed. She asks if he wanted to say something and he produces a ring, using his powers to move it without his hands and open the box. He proposes, and Katie immediately says yes. At Global Tech, she shows off her ring to Stephanie but admits that she is nervous about whether their kids will have superpowers. Stephanie explains that she's just about to give the rat they are using as a test subject the antidote to see if it works and suggests Joshua might not have powers for much longer. Stephanie decides to throw an engagement party for Joshua and Katie.
Daphne goes to see Chris at home as she didn't see him at school. As his dad shouts in the background, he explains that he has been busy but insists he is fine. Daphne invites him to the engagement party, but Chris explains that he has just taken on a new job. He reveals that since his dad's accident, he hasn't been able to hold a job so Chris has to pay the bills. However, he admits that he needs to get out of the house and comes with Daphne. At the party, Stephanie finds Jim looking downcast. Jim takes her into the bedroom and tells her about the deflected bullet hitting a boy. He asks if they could use the serum to cure him, but Stephanie refuses, pointing out that they both know how addicted people get to it. She adds that they cannot play God. Someone watches the conversation through the crack in the bedroom door. Stephanie and Jim return to the party and are shocked when King arrives. Stephanie explains that she invited King so it wouldn't look suspicious but didn't expect him to arrive. King goes over to Joshua, who tells him to leave. However, King calls for a toast and reveals that he goes "way back" with Joshua. He announces that Joshua is capable of being anyone he chooses to be, and he's chosen to be a fool in love. Stephanie and Jim exchange worried glances. Afterwards, King whispers in Joshua's ear that he has made his father proud.

Jim goes to the hospital and, pretending to be an ambulance driver, asks the mother of the boy who got shot how he is. She explains that he is still stable. Stephanie calls Jim and reveals that Joshua didn't take the serum. Jim heads to the lair with George and pulls up Chris' criminal record. He notices that he has been caught for things like underage driving and truancy and worries about who Daphne is dating. He suggests that Chris took the serum. Suddenly it flashes up that a crime is taking place at a bank. George and Jim rush over there and discover an ATM has been targetted. The police think a bomb was used to smash it, but Jim points out that there is no residue and suggests that a supervillain punched a hole through it. The pair realise that the criminal is probably the person who took the serum. George reveals that the thief had a blue motorcycle and Jim storms over to Daphne's school to confront Chris, who also has a blue bike. He accuses him of taking the serum and robbing ATM machines, but Chris denies it. George calls and suggests that Chris can't be the criminal because another ATM robbery is happening at that moment.
Jim arrives home and finds Daphne waiting for him angrily. She is furious about his treatment of Chris and Jim apologises, explaining that he was just trying to protect her. She storms out and heads over to Chris's house, where she apologises for her dad's behaviour. However, Chris insists that everything is fine and hugs her. When he does, Daphne reads his memory and sees Chris injecting his father to heal him. She rushes home to Jim and tells him what she saw, explaining that Chris gave his dad the serum to help him walk again. Jim replies that Chris's dad is doing a lot more than just walking. Meanwhile, Chris confronts his father after finding a stash of money and says that he gave him the serum to help him walk, not help him be a criminal. His father asks for a beer, despite being sober for two years. When Chris refuses to get it, his dad punches through the fridge. He says that he is going to fix their lives and make them better, and threatens Chris when he complains that his dad is breaking into ATMs. He throws him on the floor.
Joshua goes to see King, who complains that he didn't know his son was getting married. Joshua insists that he is not King's son and complains that King turned him into a killer. He explains that he came to say he will never return to King. King replies that he will die without a serum, unless he finds someone to synthesise an antidote. King sees Joshua's face and realises that he is getting help, before suggesting that Stephanie is the one figuring out the formula. He suggests that Joshua is using Katie to get the antidote, but Joshua insists that he loves Katie and says whatever King turned him into, he won't be that for much longer. Meanwhile, Stephanie tells Katie that her antidote testing on the rat has worked and proposes that Joshua comes down to try it out. Joshua arrives, but before getting injected with the antidote he checks that Katie will still love him without his powers. She insists that she will and Stephanie injects him. Something strange begins to happen with Joshua and things start to smash around him. Katie asks Joshua if he is alright and he admits that he doesn't know. He gets up to see whether his powers still work and is disappointed when he is able to lift a beaker without touching it.

Jim rushes over to see Joshua after hearing about him erasing Daphne's memory. He pushes him against a wall as Joshua insists he was just trying to protect her. Jim goes to hurt him, but Katie arrives and tells him to stop. She comes over and asks if he really erased Daphne's memory, and Joshua admits that he did. Katie says he took her memory away too when she found out who he was. Joshua insists that it was because he loves her but Katie hands her engagement ring back, saying she doesn't love him. She asks how she could love someone who has been lying to her since the day they met and tells him to stay out of her life forever. Later, Stephanie comforts Katie as she cries, while Joshua gets on a bus and looks at the ring. He tries to close the box with his powers but discovers that they have weakened. Meanwhile, Daphne goes to see Chris, who admits that he was relieved when his father was taken away. He explains that he hasn't felt so alone since meeting Daphne and, when she reads his mind, she hears him think that he loves her. She tells him she loves him and they kiss. Elsewhere, Jim returns to the hospital and the shot boy's mother reveals that his surgery was a success. She adds that they found a tumour which was so small they would never have known about it. She explains that getting shot actually saved her son's life.
Elsewhere in the episode, at school, Mr Lichfield reminds his class about applying for a big scholarship. Afterwards, he asks to see JJ and tells him to join the academic decathlon team, but JJ refuses. JJ goes to see Natalie and asks if they can hang out, but she explains that she has to study and focus on getting the scholarship. Mr Lichfield overhears the conversation and, later, approaches JJ again. He suggests that if JJ joins the team, Natalie's chances of getting the scholarship will be greatly improved. Later, Natalie finds JJ and reveals that she got the scholarship. He goes to see Mr Lichfield and points out that he never agreed to join the academic decathlon team. Mr Lichfield replies that if he refuses to join, Natalie's scholarship might have to be given to a "more worthy" student. JJ agrees to join and ends up solving an extremely complicated equation given to him by Mr Lichfield.
The episode ends with Dr King congratulating Mr Lichfield on getting the job done. Mr Lichfield admits that JJ solved the problem Dr King gave him in seconds. He accepts an envelope of money from King but, as he leaves, asks why King wanted JJ to solve the problem. "That's none of your damn business," King replies.
