The episode flashes back to the day before. JJ is skateboarding along the street when Mr Litchfield gets out of a car, looking dishevelled. Litchfield begs him to solve the equations but refuses to say who he is working for. JJ tells him to solve them himself and skates off. Litchfield calls King and says JJ isn't co-operating. King coughs, but says Litchfield should be more worried about his own health. Mrs X arrives in King's office and announces that she is firing him. She suggests that he has gone easy on JJ because of his feelings for Stephanie. King protests, but Mrs X says that she is tired of being patient and reveals that she has a back-up plan. Meanwhile, Jim is furious when he hears that Litchfield approached JJ and goes to see him at school. However, Jim and JJ discover Litchfield dead in his chair. Elsewhere, George helps Katie unpack and promises that he will be her "pregnancy guy", saying that if she needs anything she can call him. Katie asks him to pick up some prenatal vitamins from Dr Klein's office and he agrees. Jim calls, and George leaves to see him. When he has gone, 'Joshua' appears at Katie's house.
George talks to his sources and discovers that Litchfield was electrocuted. Jim claims that he must have been killed by a super and realises that Litchfield was working for someone, trying to get JJ to solve the equations. He works out that JJ is in danger and calls Stephanie. However, as he tries to tell her to keep JJ safe, the lights at the Powell house flash. Eventually, the power goes out and Stephanie loses the phone line. Jim tells George that the power has gone out and George tells Jim to get over there while he calls Stephanie on her cellphone. However, Stephanie misses the call. JJ offers to go and look at the fuse box outside. However, he is approached by a man - Ben - who has been hiding in the bushes. Ben uses his power to electrocute JJ and kidnap him.
Later, Stephanie speeds round the city but can't find JJ. George arrives and reveals that the last person Litchfield called was King. Stephanie and Jim rush over to Global Tech and confront King. Jim strangles him but they discover that Litchfield is ill. Litchfield begs them for the serum, saying it is the only thing keeping him alive. Jim is reluctant, but Stephanie points out that King is the only person who knows what happened to JJ and injects him. King reveals that he doesn't have powers, but was diagnosed with cancer 18 years ago and has been using the serum to stay alive. He explains that he wants to replicate the formula so that he can have permanence and never die. However, he claims that he was protecting JJ and reveals that Mrs X - Helen Burton - wants permanence for different reasons. He agrees to help them.
Meanwhile, 'Joshua' and Katie reconcile. George arrives and is shocked when he sees 'Joshua', but Katie insists that she is OK. 'Joshua' takes her aside and reveals that his powers have gone. He says they finally have a chance to have a normal life, and Katie agrees. Elsewhere, JJ is taken to a room with sofas and game machines. Helen arrives and announces that she is going to give him one more chance to work out how his family got permanent powers. She has him thrown in a cell, and JJ is shocked to see the real 'Joshua' sitting in there. Back at Katie's house, the fake 'Joshua' leaves to get his belongings so that he can move in. Once he is outside, he morphs into Victoria.
At the Powell house, King reveals that he believes JJ is being held in one of the cells at a facility. He says that he helped design the building and not even JJ will be able to escape. He suggests that if the family works together using their abilities, they will be able to rescue him. Daphne demands to be allowed to go, explaining that JJ needs her. Meanwhile, JJ asks why 'Joshua' is in the cell, and 'Joshua' reveals that he is being punished for not hurting the Powells more. He adds that Stephanie's antidote worked and he no longer has powers. He offers to help JJ figure out how the Powells got their permanent powers so that he can work out the formula.
George goes to pick up Katie's vitamins but is shocked that Dr Klein has no recollection of meeting her. Klein admits that he was mugged in the car park and missed some appointments, but there is no record of Katie in the system. George is immediately suspicious and goes to the lair to examine the medical practice's CCTV footage. He soon discovers that Victoria was responsible for Klein's mugging. He calls Katie, who is still with the fake 'Joshua', and informs her of the situation. After hanging up, Katie pretends that she wants to hear their engagement story again but Victoria claims that she is "foggy". Katie asks if she means foggy like the weather at the beach when 'Joshua' proposed, and Victoria agrees. Katie realises that the 'Joshua' with her is an imposter.
Meanwhile, Jim, Daphne and Stephanie arrive at the facility where JJ is being held. Daphne uses mind control on the security guard to get them through, while Jim pulls off some doors to give them access. They are soon surrounded by men with guns. Daphne mind controls one of the men to put down his gun, but the guards warn that they will shoot if she speaks again. Stephanie speeds round the room, knocking out the men with their own guns. Helen watches on the CCTV and says they will be disappointed if they don't find JJ. She tells Ben to disappoint them. In JJ's cell, 'Joshua' reveals that Stephanie charted a Global Tech plane in South America. He explains that the pilot shouldn't have taken passengers and reveals that he loaded the plane with trilsettum before it took off. He points out that when the plane crashed the Powells would have inhaled the chemical. JJ starts working out the equation with the new information and 'Joshua' asks after Katie. He is shocked to discover she is pregnant.
The Powells continue their search for JJ, but are stopped by Ben who throws electricity at them. Jim manages to repel it and Ben ends up shocking himself. As he lies on the floor, he reveals that JJ is being held in the basement. The Powells rush into a lift but it soon starts to fill with a vapour. Jim begs Stephanie and Daphne to cover their mouths but the three of them collapse as Helen watches. Daphne and Stephanie eventually wake up in a cell and are met by Helen and a group of guards. Helen discloses that Jim is resting in another room and explains that she has given all of them a drug to stop their powers from working. She calls for a guard to bring in JJ and points a gun at Daphne, telling him that if he doesn't give her the answers she needs she will shoot her. King arrives at the facility and sees the knocked out guards. Meanwhile, JJ insists that he has told Helen everything he knows. He admits that he is too stressed to use his power and that he hasn't been this mentally stimulated since the crash. His eyes widen and he realises that the scientists have been mixing the trilsettum with synthetic adrenaline. He suggests that they need to use real adrenaline to make the powers permanent. Helen lowers her gun, but tells the guards to shoot the Powells once she has left. She hears three bangs when she walks down the corridor, but it emerges that King has shot the guards. Stephanie tells King that she needs to find Jim, but he urges her to speed after Helen and stop her from giving the prisoners permanent powers. He promises to find Jim and Stephanie agrees. She rushes off, as King releases the real 'Joshua'. King then goes to find Jim and tells him that Stephanie and the kids are fine. However, he announces that it will be difficult to tell them that the guards got to Jim before he could. He shoots Jim three times and says he will take good care of Stephanie.
Meanwhile, Katie tries to leave her house, claiming she's going to the food court. However, the fake 'Joshua' refuses to let her leave. Katie says she knows it is Victoria and Victoria morphs back into herself. She says that Katie can either come quietly or there will be trouble. However, the real 'Joshua' arrives. Katie runs away but bangs into a chair and crumples onto the ground, moaning. Victoria tells 'Joshua' that they could still be together and raise the baby, but 'Joshua' says he will never love her. Katie yells that her waters have broken and 'Joshua' rushes over to her, telling Victoria to leave. As Victoria goes outside, George watches her from the corner of the house and follows her. Katie worries that her baby isn't ready to be born and won't make it, but 'Joshua' says he is there for her whatever happens. Sure enough, the baby doesn't survive and Katie sobs as 'Joshua' covers its face. However, there is suddenly a flash of light and the baby's eyes turn green for a moment. 'Joshua' shouts at Katie to look and she discovers that her child has survived.
Meanwhile, Helen is disappointed with Victoria but says she doesn't need the baby anymore. She rounds up the prisoners and gets them onto a plane. Meanwhile, George looks on and tries to call someone, but a guard finds him and forces him onto the plane with the others. At the Powells', Jim wonders where George is and complains that 80 supers are still unaccounted for. The doorbell rings and he expects George, but discovers two special agents. The agents explain that a private aircraft flying over California suddenly lost altitude and crashed - the plane that George was on. In flashback, it emerges that the plane filled with trilsettum as it crashed. Back in the present, the agents reveal that no bodies were found and, over in California, George stands up from the wreckage. He spots one prisoner walk past generating electricity with his hands, while another has wolf eyes. Back at the Powells' house, Jim asks why the agents are telling him this. One of the agents explains that they know the Powells are no ordinary family. He adds: "Mr and Mrs Powell, the government needs your family's help."
