The Walking Dead executive producer and Chris Eglee are working on a drama based on the series Thief of Thieves for the network.
Thief of Thieves is created by Kirkman himself, and was reportedly based on his experiences in the Walking Dead writing room.
The story centres around criminal Conrad Paulson who is trying to live a normal life in order to reunite with his wife and son. However, he cannot get rid of his addiction to stealing.
Kirkman said: "Much like The Walking Dead brought horror to television in a unique and groundbreaking way, I feel Thief of Thieves can do the same thing for heist stories, showing the humanity of all the characters, including the criminals."
The first series of comics is being written by Nick Spencer, while Shawn Martinbrough will provide the artwork.
If the TV version gets picked up, Eglee will serve as showrunner with Kirkman and The Walking Dead's David Alpert executive producing.
Robert Kirkman recently said that The Walking Dead will "always be a bloodbath".
The second season finale of The Walking Dead scored record cable ratings for AMC last month.
