'The Celebrity Apprentice': 'Blown Away' recap

By
We said goodbye to Dayana Mendoza in the last episode of The Celebrity Apprentice, but which star (or stars!) would be packing their bags in this week's instalment?

No-one's surprised when Dayana doesn't return (even though Lisa Lampanelli freaks them all out by pretending that she's the only one back, before revealing that Clay Aiken's there too!) But Teresa Giudice is not impressed when Lisa starts doing impressions of her: "It seems pretty obvious I'm her next target."

But let's forget about all the drama and get into the next challenge! Donald Trump gathers the contestants together to reveal that they'll be creating a four-page print ad for the new touch screen Chi Touch hairdryer to go in Elle. Exciting! They'll be judged on their brand messaging, print ad campaign and overall pitch.

Lisa decides to be project manager for her team... which only includes her and Clay! But she's not worried: "They have to carry Teresa along, and we don't have to carry anyone." So understandably Lisa's surprised when Teresa's picked as project manager for the other team. There's a lot at stake - $100,000 for the winning project manager's charity!

Unanimous

Executive Farouk comes to see Unanimous, and almost immediately takes a shine to Aubrey O'Day ("How gorgeous you are makes me weak.") But there's no time for flirting - the team has to come up with a print ad, after all. Aubrey suggests that they should focus on Chi and have a meditation theme, with a futuristic vibe because of the touch screen. She also proposes having no words - readers of Elle should get the message! Teresa likes the idea so that's what they go for.

The next job? To negotiate for models. Unanimous are clear on two they definitely want, including a redhead (since Farouk was so keen on Aubrey's locks.) But Forte have a big advantage, as they don't have any preferences... meaning that Lisa can force Teresa's hand during the negotiations (much to Clay's delight and Aubrey and Arsenio Hall's dismay).

Teresa's not impressed and accuses Lisa of playing "dirty like the dirty mouth she has" in confessional, later adding that she is a "shady, shifty two-faced blank - you can fill in the blank". Ouch! Lisa, on the other hand, is feeling very pleased with herself and giggles as the negotiation comes to an end. Oh dear.

Unfortunately for Teresa, Eric chooses that moment to come and visit... just as Aubrey and Arsenio are moaning about the models they've ended up with (Teresa's spinning it that they won because they got the redhead, though). So Eric gets to hear their complaints and later admits that this could be Teresa's downfall. Oh, and of course Aubrey takes over to explain their plan for the task.

She also takes over other parts of the project, getting in wardrobe and models in preparation. ("The feeling in my heart is, 'How dare you not have handled business in the right way?'" she says. "You're relying on your team, and when I say team I mean me, to fix the entire problem.") Meanwhile, Teresa spends the drive complaining about Lisa. ("Teresa's no fool - she knows she's been duped," Arsenio suggests.)

At the studio, Arsenio is "getting his Annie Liebovitz on" to take photographs of the hairdryer, explaining that this is in his wheelhouse. Elsewhere, Aubrey and Teresa work out looks for the shoot - and Aubrey suggests modelling herself!

Teresa agrees, pointing out that Farouk loved her, but then she has to send away the redheaded (or actually blonde) model they worked so hard for. She's not happy: "Next time, tell me before." There are other problems for Teresa, too, as no-one seems to realise she's actually the project manager...

Aubrey begins getting dressed, shocking Teresa by having her "boobs hanging out" ("Do you have any morals?" she gasps in confessional.) But shots need to be taken and Teresa gets down to directing the shoot, explaining that she loves photography. Aubrey's also happy that she can model ("My hair looks so fierce - it's just undeniable"). But Teresa suggests that Arsenio hasn't contributed as much to the task this week...

Will their presentation go well, though? Unfortunately, Teresa stumbles through her opening lines (so badly that Aubrey winces a little.) And after Aubrey and Arsenio have their say, they're all done. "I saved the day," Aubrey says afterwards, adding that if they lose Teresa should go home. We'll see...

Forte

Lisa quickly comes up with a concept - there's a lot going on behind the surface of this hairdryer, much like there is with women. So they decide to take photographs of women, and then flip the stereotypes. Clay's a bit concerned that they won't get that across in a print ad, but he's willing to give it a go!

After Lisa's successful model negotiations ("I'm an evil genius"), Forte are feeling even more confident. So Lisa goes shopping with a model to pick out wardrobe, while Clay heads to the studio to start getting the rest of the models ready. But with Lisa away at the mall, he gets "overwhelmed" and admits that he can't really make any decisions until Lisa is back. He admits he's concerned about the lack of organisation and direction...

Eventually, Clay begins taking pictures of the hairdryer and two of the models are almost ready. Finally, Lisa gets back and Clay hustles her so that they can get on with the shoot. In fact, he ends up doing most of the work, and though he enjoys it he makes clear in his confessional that Lisa "did nothing to help". He actually suggests that people might think he was the project manager instead of her...

When Don comes to visit, he's impressed with their "pretty interesting" concept, but like Clay, warns that it will be difficult to translate into a print ad. Still, Lisa's not concerned: "We're so winning this. It's, like, unbelievable."

And everything goes well at the presentation, too, as both Lisa and Clay deliver their words easily. "I totally think we won," Lisa says, adding that if Teresa beat her she'll blow her brains out! It's not up to her, though, and Farouk begins discussing the two teams with Elle's editor and another executive.

They praise Unanimous's images and Arsenio's work, but say Teresa lacked passion and there isn't enough information in their ad. Meanwhile, they agree that Forte did well with presenting the benefits and features of the hairdryer, but they weren't as passionate, and their images are "a little dated". Ouch! But let's see who's won...

The Boardroom

We're straight into business as Donald asks Teresa if Lisa played her for a fool in the negotiations! Teresa denies that, but Lisa points out that Teresa shouldn't have put all her cards on the table in her desire for the redhead. But Teresa says she felt great about her models and accuses Lisa of playing dirty - she's honest and respectful, but Lisa isn't. For her part, Lisa says Teresa shouldn't be in the final two.

Donald brings Aubrey into the discussion, but she's reluctant to say much - she says Lisa is sharp and smart and can get what she wants, and admits that she thinks Teresa folded a little early. But while she respects Lisa's brain, she loves Teresa and knows her strengths too.

Arsenio admits that he's been "trying to become invisible" but admits that he wasn't happy with the models they got. And Eric admits that he saw that, though Aubrey defends her team by saying that he arrived at the worst possible time and they hadn't been able to get around to fixing things yet.

Time to talk to the other team briefly, and then Donald shows each team the other's ad. Arsenio isn't sure about the other team's work, saying it looks more like a pamphlet than a layout for Elle. But Clay says that he doesn't think the other team's ad really presents the hairdryer that well.

Eric begins giving out feedback to Teresa's team: they liked the passion and Arsenio, but weren't happy that the advert didn't include detail of the hairdryer's features (though they spoke about it in their presentation). They also didn't like the way the models were dressed and criticised Teresa's "awkward" presentation (she admits she gets nervous).

As for Lisa's team, Don reveals that they liked the amount of information in the advert and particularly liked the ad's tomboy character, but weren't happy with the "dated" clothing and thought the models weren't really styled. Plus the presentation lacked a bit of passion. But who would be fired if they lost? Lisa and Clay both agree that they worked hard but are able to stand up for themselves in the Boardroom.

On the other side, Teresa suggests that if her team loses, Arsenio should be fired - he didn't do as much as Aubrey and her. Well, it looks like Arsenio's going to have to fight back, because Teresa's team lost! Lisa and Clay are naturally thrilled, and head back to watch the events unfold...

Who's Going Home?

Teresa admits that she's shocked, saying that she thinks her team's ad was a better fit for Elle than the other team's. Arsenio also says he didn't expect to lose, while Aubrey suggests that the team took a risk which didn't pay off.

Donald asks once again about the negotiations, but Aubrey's reluctant to say too much as she wasn't there. Arsenio, on the other hand, admits that they didn't get the models they wanted and begins to implicate Teresa. Watching this all happen, Lisa calls Teresa "dumb" - yikes!

Teresa returns to her suggestion that Arsenio should be fired for not bringing as much to the table and playing it safe. But Arsenio says he's "offended" by that, and it's soon a row about who did what (with Arsenio pointing out that he took pictures of the product). "Don't throw me under the bus," Arsenio warns. "I'll back it up and I'll hit you with it."

Teresa suggests that she and Aubrey took on most of the work in the task, but Arsenio tells her to stop hitching her wagon to Aubrey. What's more, he brings up the fact that no-one knew Teresa was the project manager (though she suggests that's not true). He calls her the "sweetest lady in the world" but adds that she may be "over her head". Unsurprisingly, Teresa disagrees.

Eventually, though, Donald points out that as the project manager, Teresa is pretty much responsible - and she's fired. "I don't think Mr Trump fired the right person, but you know, I'm really proud of myself that I made it this far," she says. "It was an amazing experience and I wanted to prove to people I'm not just a housewife - there's more to me than that."

But it's not over...

Arsenio and Aubrey head back to see Lisa and Clay, as Arsenio admits that he hates the Boardroom. He explains that Teresa is a sweet lady and adds that he hopes she knows that this is all just part of the competition. But the final four shouldn't get comfortable - Donald calls them back into the Boardroom!

When they get there, Donald congratulates them all on making it to the final four ("It is something to be proud of") but then announces that they're about to face interviews with last season's contestants John Rich and Marlee Matlin! Afterwards, two people will be fired...

Aubrey

Marlee admits that Aubrey is "stunning" and "very intelligent", but admits that she was surprised about how nervous she was. In her interview, Aubrey admits that she doesn't like "hearing no", but Marlee asks about her plans for her charity after The Celebrity Apprentice.

John, though, is a bit tougher and asks how much money Aubrey has raised ($50,000). He's disappointed that she didn't use her connection to Sean Combs - even though she was fired from Making The Band! Aubrey points out how much she has raised for other people's charities but John says that's a "terrible answer" - why isn't she the number one fundraiser? Becoming tearful, Aubrey says that she has fought for every task but never in a manipulative or conniving way.

With Donald, John suggests that Aubrey is a "chess player", "very smart, but a little transparent in her chess playing". He admits that he felt like she was playing him and calls her "a little green". But Marlee says she respects Aubrey's dedication to her charity.

Clay

Marlee says Clay is very sweet and genuine, and also devoted to his charity, but questions whether he's a leader or a follower. In her interview with him, Marlee asks Clay whether he's playing safe since he was only project manager twice (and won once). But Clay says he's got this far without making enemies, which shows how much respect he's earned.

Meanwhile, John asks Clay if he has it in him to buck everybody's perceptions and fight for the win. Clay insists that he does, saying he doesn't want second safe. But John asks him why he hasn't fought to be project manager more... Clay explains that he didn't come to fight people, he came to win... and he "absolutely will".

With Donald, John admits that it's tough to be under scrutiny like Clay is but questions why he would hold back...

Arsenio

John says he loves Arsenio's energy and feels good around him, but asks if he can be a little out of control at times. And in his interview with Arsenio, he admits that he thought he'd have raised more than $100,000. Arsenio insists he gave everything he had, but John replies: "You don't look tired to me."

Meanwhile, Arsenio tells Marlee about his charity but is forced to admit that he argued with Aubrey and called her a couple of names. "Oops," Marlee replies! Ouch. But Arsenio points out that though he can't change the past, he can apologise and ask for forgiveness and he did do that. "I'm a little disappointed," Marlee says.

When she's with Donald, she explains that Arsenio fights for what he believes in and is very passionate. And she points out that people do have flare-ups and lose their temper when they're tired and overworked. Though it doesn't excuse them, Arsenio did apologise and dealt with it like a man.

Lisa

Marlee jokes that Lisa talks a lot ("Even being deaf I can hear her") and says she's very passionate, while John says she's very tough. In his interview with Lisa, he asks just how tough she is, and she claims she's tougher than the rest of the contestants.

But Marlee asks her about her emotions and asks if it's appropriate to cry in the Boardroom, as Lisa has done. Lisa points out that all of the women in the competition have been upset at some point - it's not just her!

So back with Donald, Marlee admits that Lisa's "major weakness" is the lack of control she has over her emotions - you can't break down as a leader. But John praises the fact that Lisa provokes strong emotions in people, whether they're good or bad. But it's now decision time for Donald...

Who's Going Home?

Donald tells the celebrities that John and Marlee had lots of positive things to say... and also some "real negatives". Clay thinks his interview went well, though he had to "spar" with John, who was "tough". Arsenio agrees, explaining that it felt like John was trying to make him lose his temper!

Aubrey also thinks she did well and denies reports that she was nervous, while Lisa also thinks she did pretty well. She says that she should be in the finals because everyone always says she does great, and yet she never used "shifty tactics" or lied. "I think I can hold my own," she says.

Donald points out that Marlee and John thought she was "fantastic"... but not in control of her emotions. Lisa disagrees, saying that she's always in control and knows how to use her emotions. But Donald says he has to agree with Marlee and John - Lisa's fired! She describes her experience as "really cool" and points out that she was fired without any arguments or fights: "It's almost like I went out on a high note."

Donald's not done... One more celebrity's about to be fired! Unfortunately for us, we won't find out who it is until next week... Begin counting down the minutes now!

The Celebrity Apprentice airs Sundays on NBC.
