Simon Cowell, LA Reid, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger's acts will perform live for the first time on Tuesday, October 25 at 8/7c on Fox.
A message posted on the show's official Twitter account stated: "Breaking news! 5 of the 17 acts will be eliminated by the judges on 10/25. Find who's out at 8/7C on FOX!"
Each judge chose four acts to take through to the live shows following the Judges' Houses stage, although Cowell later realised he had made a mistake in sending Melanie Amaro home and invited her to join his girls category as a fifth act.
The other girls in Cowell's category for the live shows are: Tiah Tolliver, Drew Ryniewicz, Rachel Crow and Simone Battle.
Reid is mentoring the boys (Chris Rene, Astro, Marcus Canty and Phillip Lomax), Abdul is guiding the groups (Brewer Boys, inTENsity, Lakoda Rayne and Stereo Hoggz), while Scherzinger is in charge of the over 30s (Stacy Francis, Josh Krajcik, Dexter Haygood and LeRoy Bell).
The X Factor's remaining 12 contestants will perform live for America's votes for the first time on Wednesday, November 2 at 8/7c on Fox.
The first live results show will air the following night.
The show's winner will receive a $5 million recording contract and the chance to appear in a Pepsi Super Bowl commercial.
The X Factor continues Tuesday, October 25 at 8/7c on Fox
