The 15-year-old rapper told Fox All Access that people who call him "cocky" or "arrogant" do not understand that it is just part of his stage persona.
Astro said: "A lot of people call me cocky when they watch the show or say I'm arrogant.
"It's not arrogance. You're never going to understand unless you're an artist. It's like Beyoncé has her alter ego Sasha Fierce - when I get on stage I'm a different person. I'll be the cockiest person on stage and in the booth when I'm recording a song, but I'm very humble in person."
Astro added: "When I get on stage it's like I break out and express all these feelings I can't express when I'm talking to you. I just feel like a star on stage."

He later travelled to The Hamptons for the Judges' Houses stage of the competition where LA Reid, aided by his guest judge Rihanna, chose to advance him to the live shows as part of his boys category.
Astro will join the rest of The X Factor's Top 17 in performing live for the first time tonight (Tuesday) at 8/7c on Fox, when five acts will be eliminated by the judges.
