Dexter Haygood has confessed that he is partly "happy to be moving on" from The X Factor USA.

The 49-year-old was sent home during Tuesday night's live broadcast after Over 30s mentor Nicole Scherzinger chose to eliminate him over fellow singers Stacy Francis, Josh Krajcik and LeRoy Bell.

Talking to MTV News, he stood by his performance of Katy Perry's 'I Kissed A Girl' and believed that he "killed it" on stage, insisting his exit was not all negative.

"I'm just happy to be moving on, somewhat. Let me tell you something - being in a competition is a lot of stress," Haygood explained.

"I'm not happy to be off, but it's a good feeling knowing that the competition [has ended]. If you don't win the Super Bowl, you're glad the damn season is over."

Scherzinger confessed that she was nervous ahead of Tuesday night's broadcast as "anything goes" during live telecasts.
