'The X Factor' USA final auditions - Live blog

By
The X Factor USA - Live blog
It's been quite a journey around the country for our X Factor panellists Simon Cowell, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and LA Reid. They've searched from coast to coast for the biggest talent in the country and it all comes to a close tonight. As the final auditionees take the stage, it's time for the moment of truth - who will get those last coveted spots at Boot Camp? Stay with Digital Spy live from 8/7c to find out!

20:57Well, that's it for auditions this year. Ellie Goulding's 'The Writer' is playing in the background as we see the auditorium empty out. I always get a bit excited hearing Ellie on TV (and by the way, her new album is out next month and it's incredible). Next week, we head to Boot Camp, where we'll begin weeding out the crap from the less crap and moderately talented. I kid! But join us next Wednesday (October 3) at 8/7c for the latest action, as per usual!

20:51Demi thinks Jordyn is "too cute" and had fun watching her performance since she "shines" on stage. Britney agrees, though most likely it's because she's just a kid. LA calls her a "bundle of joy" and jokes that he was happy to see her sing a song that Simon hates. Demi says yes, as does Britney. Oh, brother. Simon likes her, but thinks she's not right for this show. So it comes down to LA and he lets her through. She won't go any further than Boot Camp, but whatever.

20:49Simon jokes that she's not going to sing 'Tomorrow' from Annie, but uh... she actually is. It's just over the top. She's singing through her nose and it makes me want to cut my ears off. Simon hates this song. This poor kid is going to be bullied for this nonsense. It's so awful.

20:46Is this obnoxious child hour? Jordyn Foley, 12, is up next. She's dressed like a real life Rainbow Brite and has the most grating laugh I've ever heard. Make it stop.

20:40Simon thinks that Lauren's audition is a perfect example of how it's done, while LA appreciates her "husky, round voice" because it's so mature. Britney finds her "unbelievable" and even calls her "sweetie", which must mean she likes it. Demi is really impressed and can't believe she's only 16. It's a unanimous yes and we'll see her at Boot Camp.

20:40She's got a good voice - a bit contrived, as if she's imitating singers with a bigger voice than she naturally has, but she'll get through. She can carry a tune, she's thin and pretty, so basically a perfect X Factor contestant.

20:37Lauren Jeuregui, a high school student, is up next. They're framing her to be pretty good, so I'm sure she will be. She loves her family and her parents work hard, so this is her way of "giving back"... by auditioning for a talent show. Maybe get an after school job or a paper route, girl.

20:36Of course, the day wouldn't be complete without some terrible auditions, so now we get a little clip show of some of the rejected acts. Oh, dear. One doesn't take it very well and pulls a Chris Brown, ripping off his shirt, spitting on the camera and busting out of the building. Good riddance.

20:30LA says that his comments are not out of sympathy and are purely based on Freddie's voice, which he finds "heavenly". Britney also thinks it was really good and that it shocked her. Demi feels a lot of emotion behind his singing and thinks that he's touching, which inspires her in her own artistry.

Simon says that he had a vision in his mind of Freddie singing the song standing up, and believes he can use some inspiration. Simon then reveals that he will back Eddie so long as he backs himself and works hard on getting his size under control, which Freddie agrees to. It's a yes from all four judges. I hope Freddie really can sort himself out.

20:27Freddie is singing 'Wind Beneath My Wings' and dedicates it to his wife. He actually has a pretty good voice - a really good voice, actually. I feel like the only problem would be that he can't physically participate in things the other contestants might be able to do because he's still immobile, which is a shame but is something that the judges and producers will no doubt have to take into account.

20:25Next up, 40-year-old Freddie Combs. He's wheelchair bound because he's massively overweight. He used to weigh over 900lb, but now he's gone down nearly 400 pounds. Dear me. His biggest dream is to give hope to people his size to let them know that they can still go after their dreams.

20:18LA says that he really enjoyed it, admitting that it's tough to be a rapper in this competition but that Owen did a good job. Plus, he sings well! Britney thinks it was a good performance, but he didn't wow her. (Britney speaks the truth!) Demi says that all the girls in the audience wish they were Tori, because the lyrics are romantic and they made him sound cool. Simon "really, really likes him" and thinks he's focused, committed and passionate. Ugh, get him out of my face. Britney says no, but he gets a yes from the other three, so he's through.

20:16He even blubbers onto the judges about how she's the reason he's trying out. Simon isn't impressed and even rolls his eyes when Owen starts his version of B.o.B and Hayley Williams' 'Airplanes' to Tori (the girlfriend, natch). He's... okay? He's no superstar, that's for sure, but I've heard worse. The judges don't seem to know what to make of it, really, though the girls in the audience like it... because of course they do.

20:15Next up, it's 16-year-old Owen Stuart, who says that if he won the $5 million, he would move to New York to marry his girlfriend, with whom he had his first kiss just before moving to Charlotte, North Carolina. Oh my God, this kid is a wreck. His entire VT is him talking about how physically painful it is for him to be away from the girlfriend, and how he's doing this all for her and she has to promise him that they're going to be together. Wow. "This will give me what I need to bring us back together, the way it should be," he says. Well... okay, but I don't think it's going to work out.

20:07Simon isn't entirely sure that it was "age appropriate" but likes Trevor anyway. LA applauds him for owning the stage, while Demi thinks that he's "too cute" and fun to watch. Britney likes him a lot and calls him "completely adorable". He gets a yes from all four judges, but hopefully they'll cut his Boot Camp scenes out in editing. He just weirds me out.

20:06He's covering... 'Sexy and I Know It'. Yes, LMFAO (rest in peace). It's the campest, weirdest thing I've ever seen in my life, and I like camp. This is not the good kind. Even the judges are in shock, though they seem to think this is all very entertaining and great. Trevor's gyrating and dancing all, rubbing himself seductively and basically just being a total creep of a kid. The audience loves it, though, so apparently I know nothing.

20:04So, what happened with Trevor? He got a little too over-excited, so they gave him some Gatorade and he perked up. Well, that was "intense". Now it's his time to shine, though, and he's taking the stage!!

20:01Well, we made it, guys. The auditions are coming to a close, finally. I don't know about you, but I haven't particularly been overly impressed by anyone that's auditioned this year thus far (though a few are undoubtedly amazing). But no time for pontification, we need to see the result of last night's cliffhanger! You may remember young Trevor Moran wasn't feeling very well and the paramedics had to be called. But what happened? Did he get to sing? Oh, the suspense!
