'The X Factor' USA: Boot Camp day two - Live blog

By
The X Factor USA - Live blog
It's the final night of Boot Camp, and while we've already narrowed the 120 contestants through from auditions down by half, by the end of tonight, we'll be down to just 24. With only six acts in each of the four categories making it through to Judges' Houses - Girls, Boys, Over 30s and Groups - it's anyone's guess as to which talented hopefuls will get to continue on the path to their dreams. Who will judges Simon Cowell, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and LA Reid choose to move forward? Stay with Digital Spy live from 8/7c to find out!

21:00I know we said we'd find out who was going through to judges' homes tonight, but I lied - accidentally, I promise! In fact, it'll be next Wednesday night , when Marc Anthony, Justin Bieber, Nick Jonas and will.i.am join the judges to choose who will go through to live shows. Plus, LA throws a hissy fit! Can't wait to see that. We'll see you back here next Wednesday (October 10) at 8/7c!

20:59It's not the best song choice for either of them. Cece wavers a lot and is out of her element, while it's just not Paige's style. I can't help it, I like Paige and I have since the first episode. Simon can tell that they looked exhausted. Anyway, that's it for tonight!

20:55The day is coming to a close soon, and Cece Frey is busy painting more cheetah spots up and down her legs. What is this girl's deal? She's so weird - and not in a good way. Paige is worried before they go on, as she got "played" when it came to song choice. They're doing OneRepublic's 'Secrets', which she didn't want to do. Who knows how that happened.

20:50Freddie Combs also forgets his words, which is a shame. So does another dude who I don't remember to begin with. Forgetting lyrics seems to be a thing today, so I guess that'll make the judges' decision much easier.

20:47Jillian Jensen and Latasha Robinson are going next. I like Jillian a lot, so I hope she does okay. They're singing Sugarland's 'Stay', but the overly confident Latasha bottles it and forgets her lyrics. Jillian, however, absolutely shines. She's so great - I really, really like her. Great voice, super emotive and so sweet. Latasha is in tears, and Jillian tries to stick up for her, but she's finished. Oh well. At least Jillian did well!

20:38Arin Ray - aka Mini Chris Brown (ugh) - is ready to take his chance with Normani Hamilton - a boy/girl duo! They're performing One Direction's 'What Makes You Beautiful', which is a terrible song choice for a male and female duet, but whatever. They've got some chemistry in that cutesy teen way, I'll give them that, but I'm not particularly moved by them in general, and Arin really rubs me the wrong way. The judges seem to like it, though.

20:34Willie Jones is up next, and he's singing with Tate Stevens, who I don't even remember, to be honest. They're trying out 'Nobody Knows'. Willie forgets his lyrics at the chorus and it takes him a while to get back on track - albeit still incorrectly. Tate remembers his words, but he's nothing special, to be honest. Something tells me that both of them will be going home, and I'm not particularly sad about it.

20:32We're wasting valuable show time, but we've got to do our product placement. One of the runner boys for the show brings in the new Pepsi X flavour, which was the Dragon one that they had everyone tasting back in the auditions. Wow, isn't that exciting? No. It's not. Moving on.

20:26There are a few other pairs that go, as well, that apparently aren't worth showing in their entirety, including Julia Bullock and Ally Brooke - both of whom I can't stand for some reason. Jeffrey Gutt has a great voice, and we're apparently meant to think he's far better than his opponent, whose name they don't even bother to show.

20:23Dinah Jane Jensen has been paired with Diamond White. Both of them are great singers, but let's be honest - the girls category is really strong (as per usual) and only six can go through, so they'll really have to pull out some stops if they want to go forward. They're doing a changed-up version of Kelly Clarkson's 'Stronger'. They're both quite good, though Diamond seems to be a bit more of a natural than Dinah. I don't know if either of them are meant for Judges' Houses, but you never know.

20:16Vino Alan and David Correy, who are also roommates during the competition, have been put up against one another. They're sad to have to compete, but hey, it is a competition. Both are great, but David is someone you just remember when he leaves the stage.

They're doing Marvin Gaye's 'What's Goin' On'. I'm not sure I love the song choice for either of their voices, though it's slightly more suited to Vino's. There's nothing spectacular from either of them, unfortunately. Vino throws his hat down as he heads off stage - he must think he's messed up, somehow. That's what Simon's thinking, too.

20:13Right, moving on... It's 13-year-olds Beatrice Miller and Carly Rose Sonenclar going head to head on 'Pumped Up Kicks' by Foster the People. Carly Rose has an insane voice, especially for a kid, and has been a favourite from the beginning. I'll be surprised if she's not through. Beatrice, unfortunately, is a bit of a non-entity.

20:07They're doing Fleetwood Mac's 'Landslide' - it might not be Jennel's style, but I sort of like seeing her do a more subdued song. Tara is over the top, as per usual, and Simon looks unamused. "I don't know why you chose that song, either of you," he says afterwards. They didn't represent themselves very well, and Simon can tell that Tara chose the song, telling Jennel that he feels really bad for her. Uh oh. But there's no way they're going to let her go.

20:05The contestants now have some time to prepare, since they know who they're working with. The pairing of Jennel and Tara is a bit of a disaster since Tara picks the song and it's not at all in Jennel's style, but she doesn't seem to care. Well, that's lovely. (Although, to be fair, Jennel should have spoken up a bit more!) They're up first.

20:03The judges have put Tara Simon up against Jennel Garcia - I sure hope to see the end of Tara tonight. Paige Thomas is going to be up against Cece Frey - yet again, since they sang the same Whitney Houston song on day one. This should be good!

20:01Well, it's that time - there are about 60 people left, but only 24 can go through. I've got a few people I'd like to see in the next round (and I'm pretty sure most of them will make it, given the foreshadowing), but you just never know! We've got another day of Boot Camp to get through first, and some serious singing battles to witness!
