The boyband and X Factor UK graduates performed 'Live While We're Young' and new Ed Sheeran-penned single 'Little Things' on Thursday evening's (November 8) results show, as the show's viewers voted on the contestants' performances for the first time this season.
CeCe Frey and Jason Brock ultimately fell into the bottom two, and both sung once again to secure their continued place in the competition.
Frey elected to sing Cher's 'You Haven't Seen the Last of Me' from the movie Burlesque, while Brock chose 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' by Bonnie Tyler.
Lovato elected to save her own act and sent Brock home with no commentary, while Reid did the same and sent Frey home, apologising for doing so.
Spears chose to send Frey home, again offering no commentary. Cowell chose to sent Brock home, taking the vote to deadlock.
The results of the public vote were then announced, and it was revealed that Brock had finished with the lowest public vote and was thus leaving the competition.
Following his elimination, Brock quipped: "I want to say, I did it for the gays and Japan! But I'm really happy to have been here."
"I'm still proud of him every time he sings," mentor Reid added. "He sings from his heart. He was very entertaining... I'm sad to see him go."
Brock then thanked Reid for the "honour" of working with him, describing him as "a legend and "so talented".
Brock had finished bottom of Digital Spy's latest reader poll, while Frey placed fourth from bottom.
Simon Cowell had earlier confirmed on Twitter that the results would be revealed in reverse order for the first time. However, the Top 12 was initially revealed in no particular order, and the exact order of the viewer vote was announced at the end of the show.
Hosts Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez revealed that the ranking was as follows:
12. CeCe Frey
11. Arin Ray
10. Beatrice Miller
9. Lyric 145
8. Paige Thomas
7. Jennel Garcia
5. Fifth Harmony
4. Diamond White
3. Vino Alan
2. Carly Rose Sonenclar
1. Tate Stevens
"Wow!" Stevens said, joking: "Obviously people in America don't get out a lot!
"Thank you so very much. This is huge, not only for me and my family, but this show. I think it's pretty big."
Cowell admitted that he was surprised with the placing of Emblem3 in particular, who he expected to be at the top of the leaderboard.
He told Lopez that he had found the exercise "useful", and would use it to work with the band to make them more appealing to the public.
Reid said that he thought Stevens and Sonenclar were both great artists who are capable of winning the competition.
