Christina Aguilera has admitted that she stumbled on the lyrics to the national anthem at the Super Bowl because she had been "taking in the moment".

The 'Fighter' star fluffed a line in 'The Star-Spangled Banner' during her performance at the sporting event in February.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show scheduled to air today, the singer said that she had been performing the national anthem for the Pittsburgh Steelers since she was seven or eight years old, and had been taking in the idea of "coming full circle" at the Steelers/Packers game when she made the mistake.

"I think I had a moment at the Super Bowl at 30 years old where I took in the moment a little bit too much," she said. "Shoot me for appreciating the moment, but here I am at the Super Bowl singing for the teams and in front of the world and remembering what it was like to be that young, and look where I made it now."

She went on to joke: "That night, I knew that I just made myself a Trivial Pursuit question! 'In 2011, which female singer flubbed the lyrics [to the national anthem at the Super Bowl]?'"

Aguilera can next be seen as a mentor on the new NBC vocal talent competition The Voice, which premieres tonight at 9/8c on NBC.
