'The Voice's Erin Martin: 'I always said I'd be on Team Cee Lo'

By
The Voice contestant Erin Martin has said she always wanted to be part of Cee Lo Green's team since the moment she began watching the show.

Martin won over coaches Cee Lo and Blake Shelton with her blind audition performance of 'Hey Delilah' on Monday night (February 13), and chose to join Team Cee Lo.

Speaking to reporters on a conference call, she said: "From the moment that I started watching the show before auditioning I'd always say if I was ever on the show, I would totally be on Team Cee Lo.

"It just so happened he and Blake turned around. I love Blake and think he's a fantastic human being and hilarious, and I'd love to be on his team, but he had Xenia and Dia last year, who have freaky and unique voices. He did really well with those girls, I just didn't want to be stuck in the 'Blake gets all the freaky, unique voices'."

Martin also said that she was hoping Cee Lo could help her with her performances, pointing out his own extravagant productions involving pyrotechnics, feathers and spikes.

She added: "Being on The Voice has helped me open myself up a lot as far as performance goes, and I hope I can continue to grow with Cee Lo's team and he can just help me be as fabulous as he is!"

Martin added that she chose to audition for The Voice after hearing from record labels that she needed development.

"It's not that I've been turned down by record labels, but I get 'well, she needs development' and labels aren't really developing people, they want someone with a huge fan base," she explained.

"It was like, 'If you audition for The Voice and make it you'll be in front of millions of people and it will be great exposure'."

However, the singer admitted she initially wasn't sure she would even get on the show

"Millions of people audition and I thought there was no chance I'd get on the show, then I kept getting callbacks and then I got flown out to LA and was like, 'Wow, OK, it's really happening! I could be part of the show!'

"Walking on stage I was having a mini panic attack and thought I was going to die - but I didn't! I survived and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life."

The Voice airs Mondays at 8/7c on NBC
