Levine recently commented that he felt a responsibility to make the new Voice coaches feel at ease when taping on the spring season began weeks ago.
"Blake and I had all these designs to make [Shakira and new coach Usher] feel very uncomfortable, but we saw how genuinely excited and slightly nervous they were," Life & Style quotes him as saying. "We didn't have it in our hearts to haze them too much."
The 'Payphone' singer added: "We welcomed them. We made them feel really comfortable because that's what they deserved."

Levine also rejected the suggestion that Shakira and Usher are considered replacements for Aguilera and Green.
"I will miss [Christina]. No-one can replace Christina and Cee Lo [Green]; it's not really possible," he explained.
The Maroon 5 star revealed earlier this week that he has already developed "chemistry" with Usher and Shakira.
The Voice airs on NBC.
