Aguilera told Access Hollywood that she only signed as a Voice coach after being assured that the show wouldn't mock its contestants.
"We all four joined hands and we said to Mark Burnett, 'We don't want to be on a show that's promoting any sort of negativity or is about to tearing down the actual talent that gets up on that stage in any way shape or form'," the singer revealed.
She added: "We know what it feels like and so I just feel like we stay genuine and true to that and I think the audience appreciates that."
Her fellow Voice coach Adam Levine made similar comments, suggesting that the NBC series is not comparable to talent shows like American Idol and The X Factor.
"We're not competing, we're just doing our own thing," Levine declared.
Cee Lo Green and Aguilera will be taking a break from The Voice for the Spring 2013 cycle. They will be replaced by Usher and Shakira.
Aguilera recently commented that she may return to The Voice for a future season.
