The eighth season of Big Brother in the US will get underway on July 5, CBS has confirmed.
As usual, three episodes of the reality staple will air per week: one on Tuesdays at 9pm and one each on Thursdays and Sundays at 8pm. Each of the full-length episodes will be made available on partner websites that are part of the CBS Audience Network. Live internet streaming will also be back and offered via RealNetworks for $14.99 per month.
A fourth season of internet discussion show Big Brother: House Calls has been lined up and will be hosted by Gretchen Massey.
New for this run will be Big Brother: After Dark, a three-hour live and unedited feed from the house available every night during the season. The feed will air on ShoToo, part of the Showtime channel bouquet. Profanity and nudity will not be censored but the usual controls to guard against the transmission of potentially libellous content will remain in place. ShoToo will go live the house between midnight and 3am in the East.
"That's primetime for the 'Big Brother' house," executive producer Allison Grodner told Variety, pointing out that viewers in the Eastern timezone will be watching events from 9pm to midnight in Los Angeles, where the house is located. "It's when our houseguests are most wide awake and having fun, talking about strategy and playing the game. People are going to see quite a bit.
Viewers on the west coast, despite their relative proximity to the house, will have to wait until midnight Pacific time for a tape delayed version of After Dark.
