The original Office creator said that he has met with producers on the NBC sitcom and suggested that Running Wilde star Arnett be given a recurring part.
He wrote on his blog: "Had a little meeting with NBC about various things and recommended Will Arnett for a regular in The Office. Thoughts? I think he's amazing."
Gervais did not specify whether the recommendation was in relation to a replacement for Steve Carell, who is leaving towards the end of the current season.
Arnett is best known for playing illusionist Gob Bluth in Arrested Development.
