Spader recently guest starred on the season finale of the NBC series as one of the applicants for the open office manager position. However, it appears that the Boston Legal actor has now been tapped to fill a different role - that of Kathy Bates, according to Entertainment Weekly.
"In the finale, he kicked ass," said a source. "He was so funny and had this weird energy. We didn't want to pass it up."
Producers on The Office revealed that Bates, who played the CEO of Dunder Mifflin Jo Bennett, will leave the series in order to concentrate on her own television show Harry's Law.
Spader will reportedly be introduced in the season premiere of the NBC series as the new office manager before convincing corporate into promoting him to CEO. Nevertheless, his presence in the office will affect the staff significantly, particularly Dwight (Rainn Wilson).
"Dwight has never come up [against] somebody equally powerful and diabolical. With Andy, he could be a real father figure and make life really hard for him once he senses he can manipulate him," said the source. "Jim reads people really quickly, yet wasn't sure what to make of this guy."
Meanwhile, Catherine Tate is allegedly still the favourite to replace Steve Carell, though the actress may turn down the role due to prior theater commitments.
