Pitt joins Scorsese's 'Boardwalk Empire'

Michael Pitt has been added to the cast of Martin Scorsese's HBO pilot Boardwalk Empire, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on Nelson Johnson's book chronicling the birth of New Jersey's Atlantic City, the drama will star Pitt as a World War I veteran aiming to rise to the top of the crime ladder by working for liquor racketeer Nucky Johnson (Steve Buscemi).

Choke's Kelly Macdonald will play an Irish immigrant who marries to get out of her parents' home.

Sopranos writer Terrence Winter is penning the project and serving as executive producer alongside Scorsese and Mark Wahlberg.
