'Mad Men' Jon Hamm: 'I subconsciously identify with Don Draper'

By
Jon Hamm has admitted that he is somewhat similar to his troubled Mad Men character Don Draper.

The actor told Esquire that although he is not an alcoholic or a womaniser, he can identify with some aspects of the brooding Draper's personality.

"I think the sort of misplaced childhood sense is probably the only thing about Don Draper that I do have in common. I can't really delve too deeply into the psychoanalysis of it, as I would be underqualified and oversharing," Hamm explained to the magazine.

He went on to say: "I suppose that sensibility resonated at some point during the audition process, and may lend the character or my portrayal thereof some deeper meaning. Wholly unconsciously on my part."

Hamm recently commented that Mad Men's 18-month hiatus was "incredibly frustrating".

Mad Men's fifth season premieres in the US on AMC on March 25. The series returns to the UK on Sky Atlantic on March 27.
