'Mad Men' exec Matthew Weiner: 'I know how the show will end'

By
Mad Men showrunner Matthew Weiner has revealed that he knows "exactly how [the show is] going to end".

Speaking at PaleyFest ahead of the launch of season five, Weiner reaffirmed his intention to end the AMC drama after a seventh year and confessed that he was being tested with "plotting" the final episodes.

"The plan is for seven seasons," he said. "Seven years sounds like the right amount… My whole thing is I don't want to overstay our welcome. And it's really hard.

"This is the first season we went into knowing there would be more seasons. Trying to think about plotting out three seasons at once makes me sick... [but] I know everything - exactly how it's going to end."

Confirming Weiner's plans, Mad Men star Jon Hamm is only contracted to play series protagonist Don Draper until season seven.

The actor has also claimed that he knows how the show will end.

Mad Men returns to AMC on March 25 and airs in the UK on Sky Atlantic two days later.
