Mad Men star Vincent Kartheiser has teased that viewers will soon discover whether Pete feels "guilt" over Lane's (Jared Harris) death.

Lane committed suicide in the latest episode of the AMC series, 'Commissions and Fees', after his financial and professional troubles came to a head.

Speaking about how the twist will impact this week's Mad Men finale, titled 'The Phantom', Kartheiser said that his cold character will have an interesting reaction to his colleague's passing.

"There's no way that he can't be affected," he told TV Guide. "But at what level does Pete feel guilt? Does he have that blue blood, 'I'm not going to feel guilty [because] everyone makes their choices', or is he actually going to have some remorse about how he acted this season?

"Those are questions I had when I read the script, and the audience will discover [the answers] very soon."

Harris himself has said that although he is happy to leave Mad Men "with a bang", he also "shed a little tear" once Lane's fate was sealed.

"I've grown very fond of Lane, and I love working there," the actor confessed. "It's the best show on television, and my ride was over."

Mad Men wraps up its fifth season on Sunday (June 10) on AMC. The series airs Tuesday nights at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
