Hamm - who plays Don Draper - will also be helming an episode after his success directing Mad Men's season five instalment 'Tea Leaves'.

Little is known about Mad Men's sixth-season storylines, other than that Hamm and Jessica Paré shot scenes for the premiere in Hawaii.

Mad Men's fifth run was nominated for 17 Primetime Emmys, but the show did not take home any awards at the September ceremony.

AMC will broadcast Mad Men's new season in 2013.
