The vicious biker betrayed Mason (Noah Wyle) and his team on the TNT drama, and Cunningham told Entertainment Weekly that Pope is unlikely to find redemption.
"He's not the nicest guy in the world," explained the actor. "He's certainly an opportunist. He's entirely and completely out for himself. When it comes to helping the Second Massachusetts [alien resistance movement], if it's good for John Pope, he'll do it. If it isn't, he won't."
Cunningham insisted that Pope will not have a "giant [character] arc" throughout the show's first season.
"The really interesting thing about Pope is that I don't think you're going to get some giant arc where he goes from sinner to saint," he said. "I think he'll go from sinner to sinner with a small glimmer of humanity."
Falling Skies was recently renewed for a second season. Earlier this month, series producer Mark Verheiden revealed that he already has ideas for future episodes, stating that he has long-term plans for the alien-invasion drama.
Falling Skies airs on Sundays at 10pm on TNT in the US and on Tuesdays at 9pm on FX in the UK.
